SHARON KEMPTON

MTO German-Australian Opera Grant
Lyric Soprano

The Australian soprano Sharon Kempton studied her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Winner of many scholarships and awards Sharon spent August 2000 in Florence, Italy undertaking Language studies.

After engagements with Opera Australia, in September 2001 Sharon won the prestigious German Operatic Award receiving a year as a member of the Cologne Opera Studio, Germany.

In 2003 she was awarded the MTO German-Australian Opera Grant and became a memberof the ensemble of the Hessen State Theatre, Wiesbaden for one year. Sharon has since been a solo opera ensemble member of the Hessen State Theatre. where she has debuted as Pamina, Wellgunde, Countess Almaviva, Gretel, Armide. Michaela, Musetta, Elmira, Ilia, Axinja, Euridice, Julia De Weert, Fiordiligi, Siebel, Donna Elvira, Antonia, and Euridice.

In 2007 Sharon was nominated for 'Singer of the Year' for her performance as 'Cleopatra' (Julius Caesar - Haendel) by Opernwelt, Germany. Sharon has worked as a guest in Mannheim and Ulm as well as concerts performances in Frankfurt, Fuerth/Nurnberg and Mainz. Sharon has a vast concert repertoire with works by Mozart, Bach, Mahler, Haydn, Pergolesi, Poulenc, and Brahms.
